Killarney Fitness Centre Attire
Appropriate exercise attire is required in the Killarney Fitness Centre at all times.
Proper gym attire would be shorts or sweats, t-shirt and gym shoes. Members may be permitted to exercise in jeans if they are performing stand up exercises only as jeans can damage the upholstery. Jeans must be clean, however, sweatpants and shorts are preferred. Gym shoes with non-marking soles are mandatory. Absolutely no bare feet or “flip flops”, which are considered a tripping hazard. Toe shoes and sandals that are attached at the back are acceptable. Socks (without shoes on) are only allowed on the stretching mats. All workout attire should be clean and must not display any derogatory messaging (i.e. racial slurs)
Killarney Fitness Centre Etiquette
- The Fitness Centre may be unsupervised at times. Workout at your own risk
- Staff may be away or on break, patrons are responsible for their own safety. While we ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and safe, we cannot supervise each individual’s safety at all times
- Use equipment for its intended purpose with controlled movements and safe techniques
- Patrons are advised that their safety depends on using the equipment in the way it was designed to be used and to exercise with proper technique. They should ask for assistance if they are unsure. Patrons expose themselves to risk as the manufacturer of the equipment and the operator are not liable for any damages caused by improper use of equipment
- Ask Fitness Centre staff for assistance when available
- Harassment, discrimination, foul language, substance abuse and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated
- Patrons are expected to behave respectfully to each other and to our staff.
- Substance abuse includes being intoxicated or smelling of alcohol or cannabis or displaying signs of drug use (including cannabis, steroids, or other drugs)
- Violation of this rule results in asking the patron to leave the premises and submitting an Incident Report
- Immediately report any injury or equipment concerns to the on-duty staff
- For everyone’s safety, patrons are asked to report concerns to the staff on duty which in cases when the Fitness Centre is unsupervised may be the PAII or front desk (or any other available staff member)
- Sign up for cardio equipment before use and adhere to the rules and time limits
- The cardio Sign Up board was created to increase access to cardio equipment and to eliminate any discrepancies among patrons
- Return your equipment after use.
- Return all plates, dumbbells, attachments, balls etc. to their original storage place after using them. This will keep our spaces clean and reduce any tripping hazards. This standard practice also allows the Fitness Centre staff to focus on providing excellent customer service
- Share equipment and space.
- There is a limited amount of equipment and space so we ask that patrons let others work in when reasonable i.e. they are doing similar weights and do not have to move a large amount of weight off and on in order to share – in other words, working in makes the use of equipment more convenient and efficient. It is up to each patron’s discretion based on their routine and comfort level to allow others to work in.
- Patrons should not loiter on equipment if someone else wants to use it. We ask that patrons remain aware at all times that others may wish to use the same equipment or space and respond respectfully to any request
- Photography and video recording are not permitted in the fitness facilities and change rooms.
- Use of cell phones and other devices is permitted to support the patrons workout or to be able to respond to an emergency situation (I.e. following a fitness app, listening to music through headphones, responding to emergencies via text, etc.); however, it is prohibited to capture photos or videos in the fitness facilities as patrons move quickly about the facility and may be in a shot without their consent. Exceptions may be made if an individual or a Park Board trainer wishes to capture technique. A staff person must be present to ensure that no one else is in the picture and to explain why the video recording is being permitted in this case
- For your safety; pets, food, open containers, and glassware are prohibited.
- Service animals are allowed to accompany patrons into the fitness centre. The service animal should be secured in a convenient location during the workout so it doesn’t impede with other patrons or cause a safety hazard
- Food such as energy bars, bananas and protein shakes are permitted as long as wrappers and peels are disposed of in the correct containers provided that shakes are in a closed, non-glass container. Use this opportunity as a reminder not to pour protein shakes down the water fountain drain as this practice causes major mechanical issues and often results in the water fountain becoming out of order
- Open containers such as coffee cups can spill and make a sticky mess, glassware is a safety issue if it breaks within the facility and is not permitted
- Use lockers and cubbies for personal belongings and ensure the safety of your valuables as we are not responsible for lost or stolen article
- Patrons should use lockers and cubbies for personal belongings. There is a limited amount of lockers and cubbies at our facility
- Patrons should never bring valuables into the facility as locker theft is a reality in our public spaces.
- Appropriate gym apparel must be worn at all times
- Proper gym attire would be shorts or sweats, t-shirt and gym shoes.
- This is a scent free zone. Refrain from wearing scented products
- The community centre, Fitness Centre, pool and rink are “scent free” zones. Due to potential allergic reactions to scented products, patrons should be asked to refrain from using them when coming to the facility
- Pay admission or scan your card every visit
- Wristbands must be worn and visible at all times while in the Fitness Centre
- Minimum age to use the fitness centre is 13 years old
- Orientations for Youth 13-16 years of age are highly recommended but not mandatory
