Chess (6-12 years)

Come jump into the intricate world of Chess. Each session will be full of chess puzzles, supervised games and game analysis. This comprehensive and progressive program allows students to learn how to play chess in the optimal manner by gradually increasing complexity. Red Cross Babysitting

Gain the basic skills and condence for responsible babysitting. Learn the responsibilities of a babysitter, how to get along with and care for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school- aged children. Students will also learn how to handle emergencies and provide first aid. Canadian Red Cross Babysitter’s Manual and Babysitter’s participation card are included.

Computer Game Design

Create your own video game! In partnership with UME Academy, and guided by lm and game industry veterans, students will learn creative problem solving, physics and math through the game design process while employing the tools and technology (Unity) that power top games like Pokémon Go! Each class, while rooted in a S.T.E.M topic, will also include time to create, play and evaluate games. Older students will be encouraged to go further by customizing their creations through programming and animation. The season ends with a demo day and Community Arcade for students to showcase their creations to family and friends. Up to the minute hardware and software is provided.


Educational Camps

Cartooning and Animation Camp (7-12 years)

A professional team will instruct and guide the students in their own creations. This program is designed for young animators who are keen to learn Disney’s way of hand drawing in sequence following their favorite animated movies. Students are hands-on in every aspect to bring their cartoons to life. They will create their own short films and edit their clips with sounds, music, voice over, special effect, etc. Once the project is complete, it will be posted online as well as handed out on USB. This program also will involve lots of fun and games outside during filling breaks. Please bring a nut-free snack.

Chess for Kids Camp (5-12 years)

Vancouver Chess School provides professional chess educational program to students from beginners to advanced tournament players. We believe that in the process of learning, playing and competing in chess, children learn the valuable skills of concentration, abstract reasoning, and rational problem-solving, while tapping into their creativity and originality. Chess lessons using electronic presentations and videos, chess tournaments in a variety of fun formats, chess puzzle exercises, game analysis, and chess simultaneous exhibitions. Claymation Animation Camp (7-12 years)

A professional team will instruct and guide the students in their own creations. They will explore the amazing world of animation in sculpting background, stage and characters using plasticine! Students are hands on in every aspect bring their cartoons to life. Computer Game Design Camp

You won’t be sitting at a desk all day, at UME we believe that game design happens everywhere! Your day will include outdoor games and exploration, board games and traditional art creation all infused with game design theory and practice. Students will learn the core concepts of what makes games fun and how to use Unity3D to create their rst game. If you’ve already created video games, take a deeper dive into sound effects and music, character customization and an introduction to programming. Whether you’re new to game creation or have already taken an UME class, this camp will level up your abilities! Please bring a lunch and/or snack to camp.

French Summer Fun Camp

Increase your child’s French skills during our week long summer camp. We will sing songs, read and listen to stories in French, recite the alphabet, talk about animals, sports and food, exercise and do some art projects. Bring a nut-free snack along and join the group!

Bricks 4 kids: Bat league Heroes, Villains

Enter the dark city where a dangerous jokester and other evil villains wreak havoc. The good guys will ride into action as campers build motorized models of the bat hero’s speedy vehicle and bat girl’s sleek motorcycle. But keep the bat light searching for the evil jokester’s motorized low rider vehicle cruising through the city streets! Send the bat hero swinging on his grappling hook technic model from one skyscraper to the next as he ghts crime with his trusty super sidekick. Campers will use their imaginations, building skills and crime- ghting passion in this thrilling camp of bat heroes and villains!

Bricks 4 kids: Angry Birds, Bad Piggies

Enter into the physics world of Angry Birds® and Bad Piggies® the Bricks 4 Kidz way! Campers will be challenged to engineer and destroy a level from the popular game of Angry Birds. Set your birds to ight by launching them on catapults with slingshots to destroy pigs. Build a working launcher to create things to knock down. Campers will have the ability to build different coloured birds using LEGO® Bricks, along with our proprietary model kit.

Bricks 4 kids: Mining and Crafting

Experience the world of Minecraft with LEGO® bricks in this fun summer camp! Kids will start by crafting their shelters and some of the mobs, critters and tools using LEGO® bricks. Campers will face new challenges each day, building motorized Bricks 4 Kidz models and crafting key elements from the popular Minecraft game. The week will be filled with fun and creative engineering builds, team building exercises and much more.

Bricks 4 kids: Amazing Animals

It’s a zoo in here! In this Jr. Engineering camp kids will get to build motorized LEGO® models of slithering snakes, crawly insects, jumpy frogs and more with our growing knowledge of physics and mechanics. Each week we’ll discuss fascinating facts about the animals we create, from the frog that eats his own skin to the dragon y that can’t y unless it’s above 18 degrees celcius! Students will love these moving models that celebrate the wonders of the animal kingdom.
